Kernan Hospital’s Healing Garden was made possible by the local staff and community volunteers and associations. The first piece of the garden was a butterfly garden created out of the partnership of the Ten Hills Garden Club, Kernan Hospital and TKF. The garden incorporates benches, a water feature with fish, a sensory garden, a medicinal herb garden, and secluded activity areas with specialized gardening tools, trellises, arbors, and planters. It was designed and constructed so that it can be used as a rehabilitation tool for teaching patients to maneuver on different types of terrain. This therapeutic option prepares them for negotiating their way around their home and community environment when they leave the hospital.
