University of Maryland, College Park(On the Drawing Board) Type/FeaturesRemembrance Garden and Labyrinth AddressAdjacent to Memorial Chapel ContactThis is an exciting opportunity for TKF to partner with University
of Maryland College Park in the creation of an Interfaith Garden
of Remembrance and Labyrinth. The grant will go towards creating
a large sacred space to include a labyrinth located adjacent
to the University Chapel at the heart of the campus. The garden
will serve multiple University populations in diverse ways,
in providing a place of respite, healing, contemplation, and
the opportunity to connect multiple groups and cultures with
the campus population. The Student Affairs office is eager to
explore programming opportunities for both the labyrinth and
the greater memorial garden space that will encourage and embrace
multiculturalism as well as stimulate people to take time for
reflection and renewal. They recognize that the labyrinth use
and impact will extend well beyond the chapel and counseling
uses to become part of specific course work and as yet other
unidentified learning experiences. They are also working with
the UMCP landscape architecture students in the design process,
creating a full circle effect on the project. The garden and
labyrinth have the potential to affect a huge number of people,
and it is our hope that it will serve as inspiration for other
Universities and schools nationwide to consider their own interfaith
campus greenspace. |
