What was once an abandoned, one-acre brownfield where an apartment building once stood in northern Baltimore City is now the site of the Mt. Washington Arboretum.  The site features over 250 yards of trails infused with hundreds of native plant species, as well as a interpretive signs, five seating arrangements, a tool shed with a green roof, a pond with a waterfall, a teaching tent, a water-collecting wheel, an entrance kiosk and a pergola. The Arboretum is used by nature groups, amateur painters, photographers, school groups, master gardeners and botany classes. Talks relevant to native plants and ecological gardening are open to the public in the spring and summer. Volunteers help maintain the arboretum each weekend, and summer and winter solstice parties are held yearly in celebration of such a great community space.
