By making mediation and other non-violent conflict resolution strategies more accessible in Baltimore City, the Community Mediation Program reduces violence and interpersonal conflict and animosity while improving communication all across Baltimore City. In their Waverly community, many committed people work hard to make the neighborhood reflect the high expectations and strong values of its residents. However, Waverly struggles with the all too common issues of a major urban area. Crime, litter and pollution mingle casually with the farmer’s market, retail shops and library. This neighborhood desperately needed a green space that would support and reaffirm the residents’ dedication to a peaceful existence. The beautiful and environmentally-friendly designed Peace Garden has made this need a reality. The new Peace Garden is used as the centerpiece for mediation sessions as well as community outreach projects. It is a place for staff to take a breath and regroup as well as for Waverly neighbors, community supporters, community groups and others to enjoy. Designer |
