Labyrinth walks collect canned goods for Thanksgiving

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, several Labyrinth walks were held around the Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington DC areas just before Thanksgiving. Canned goods were collected for weeks at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Bon Secours Spiritual Center, and St. Anthony of Padua Church in Baltimore. The labyrinths were lined with the canned goods to be given to needy families all over the area. Hundreds of canned goods were collected, and just as many people participated in labyrinth walks to celebrate the true meaning of Thanksgiving. We thank all those involved in the Thanksgiving Labyrinth Walks, especially the firesouls who dedicated so much time and effort to making them possible. We hope the tradition continues for years to come.

Thanksgiving Place dedicated November 20th

GEDCO and TKF celebrated the dedication of Thanksgiving Place on Monday, November 20 2006. Located at the site of the original Memorial Stadium, Thanksgiving Place is the interfaith epicenter of Stadium Place, a senior complex of affordable housing in Baltimore. Though it was a chilly day in Baltimore, a number of people turned out to hear the first songs of the Carillon bell and to see the official ribbon cutting for such a wonderful community space. The site features arbors, gardens, a labyrinth, and a Carillon bell tower at the center of a pergola.

Gathering commemorates TKF 10 year anniversary

On October 9, 2006, TKF celebrated 10 years of creating “Open Spaces, Sacred Places” at the first ever TKF Gathering at Brookside Gardens. All the organizations that TKF has partnered with over the last ten years, including grantees, landscape architects, and firesouls, were all present for the magnificent day. The daylong event featured a panel discussion by firesouls, breakout sessions that addressed the creation and use of sacred spaces, keynote speakers such as Anthony Lawlor, author and architect, and Steve Coleman, Executive Director of Washington Parks & People. The Gathering was a huge success and TKF thanks everyone who helped make the day possible.  If you would like to see a schedule of the day’s events, or read handouts from the different sessions, please contact TKF.
